THE PORTUGUESE-STYLE BOOT

À Portuguesa 25Jun21

The boot is one of the complements of our portuguese costume which is characterized by its greased calf skin, “shelf” heel and square toe cap.

The boot considered by tradition is the knee-high boot, used by bullfighting riders. With the greater use of long pants down to the ankle, half-boots became the most recurrent model.

Made in greased calf skin, the Portuguese-style boot has a shorter top than the high boot and may or may not have a side opening that may have details such as the leather straps known as an “olive leaf”, leather cord in metal eyelets or loops.

With a very characteristic heel, the “shelf” heel, the Portuguese-style boot is also characterized by a low and wide heel, going beyond the contour of the heel to hold the spur or clic spur.

The toe of the Portuguese-style boot is cut straight, and is therefore square, which may be slightly elevated.

The colors of the Portuguese-style boot can vary between brown and black and can be used by both men and lady.

The Portuguese-style boot is a key element in our costume, with characteristic details result of a deep equestrian tradition.
